My Father La Promesa Robusto Grande
My Father La Promesa (The Promise) is a technical benchmark for the Garcia family's deep fermentation process. In terms of blend scarcity, although it is a mass-produced line, its core strength lies in its extremely high control over raw leaves – 100% of the binder and core long-filler tobacco are high-grade raw leaves specifically grown by the Garcia family on their own farms in Nicaragua under a unique microclimate. To suppress the common harshness of pure Nicaraguan blends and enhance the oily texture of the flavor, this series is wrapped in an Ecuadorian Habano Oscuro top-grade wrapper that has undergone deep fermentation and has extremely fine veins. The Robusto Grande size, with its large 54 ring gauge, not only gives the roller ample blending space (allowing for a higher proportion of Ligero tobacco to enhance richness) but also effectively increases oxygen intake and reduces burning temperature, making it a robust, large-sized masterpiece that fully embodies Pepin's traditional Cuban-style rolling construction.

【Authoritative Blind Tasting & Professional Reviews】
- Cigar Aficionado (CA): For the different sizes of the La Promesa series, the CA panel gave a comprehensive rating of 87-91 points. The panel particularly praised its excellent construction and stable burn line, noting that it exhibited distinct notes of charred oak, leather, and subtle almond and anise during the smoking experience, with extremely stable physical performance.
- Halfwheel / Industry Blind Test: Independent industry reviews (including Developing Palates, etc.) consistently average in the 87-89 point range. Professional reviewers noted that La Promesa's strengths lie in its "textbook draw" and excellent ash retention. It does not deliberately pursue extremely complex flavor transitions, but rather achieves extremely high industry standards in consistency of smoke output and smoke body, making it a very solid medium-full blend.
【Tasting Notes: Draw & Flavor Evolution】
Cold Draw & First Third: After cutting the cap, the cold draw clearly reveals aromas of hay, cocoa, and cinnamon, with a perfect draw resistance, slightly more than half a notch. Upon lighting, Pepin's signature "black pepper explosion" arrives as expected, but thanks to the natural cooling advantage of the 54 ring gauge, the pepper sensation does not present a strong throat harshness. Instead, it quickly blends with deep earthy notes, cedar, and roasted spices. When retrohaling, an extremely clear white pepper and faint creamy intertwining sensation can be experienced.
Second Third: Entering the middle third, the burn line remains sharp, and the ash is dense. The oiliness of the flavor reaches its peak at this point: the initial spice begins to diminish, replaced by the profound sweetness brought by the Oscuro wrapper – dark chocolate, aged leather, and nutty almond aromas dominate. At this time, the smoke output is extremely large, and the smoke has a very chewy texture. The nicotine strength remains medium, while the flavor body approaches full.
Final Third: The flavor transition in the final third becomes mellow, with woody notes shifting to roasted oak and a slight tannin sensation. Thanks to the extremely even distribution of the long-filler tobacco and the excellent heat dissipation structure of the large ring gauge, the smoke temperature remains in a comfortable cool burning state until the very end of the draw. Tar buildup is minimized, concluding with a clean finish of earthy aroma and a subtle woody sweetness.
