My Father La Opulencia Torpedo
Ultimate Luxury · A Classic Reimagined
In the hands of the Garcia Family, the "First Family" of the New World cigar industry, La Opulencia (The Opulence) is an epic tale of Cuban revival written with the finest aged tobaccos. Named after an old Cuban historical brand, this reimagined cigar is positioned between the classic "My Father" series and the powerful "Le Bijou 1922", perfectly filling the brand's gap in the high-end Maduro flavor matrix.
The most captivating craftsmanship of this cigar lies in its rare "Double Binder" design – simultaneously using Nicaragua's famous Criollo '98 and Corojo '99 tobaccos. This luxurious blend provides an exceptionally stable and complex framework for the entire cigar. Wrapped around it is a deep black, glossy Mexican San Andrés Rosado Oscuro top-grade wrapper, which has undergone extended deep fermentation, presenting a velvety, oily texture.
It adopts the classic Torpedo size of 6 1/8 × 52, combined with a delicate Box-Pressed technique. The traditional Torpedo lines, after being box-pressed, exhibit an extremely cool and noble angularity. This special structure allows the airflow to converge highly as it passes through the sharply tapered cap, linearly magnifying the concentrated dark chocolate and rich fat aromas within the tobacco leaves, making it the perfect choice for advanced connoisseurs exploring flavor evolution.

Tasting Notes: A Dark Chocolate Symphony with a Tapered Cap
Thanks to the box-press, this torpedo boasts excellent ash retention and a flat burn line. As you smoke, the smoke leaves a lubricating, oily protective film on the tongue, with a clean and crisp taste, devoid of any harshness or impurities.
First Third: Upon lighting, the signature black pepper "blast" of the Garcia family arrives as expected, but thanks to the sweet undertone of the San Andrés Maduro wrapper, the spiciness quickly transforms into mellow leather, cocoa powder, and rich dark-roasted coffee bean aromas. The retrohale is full-bodied, showcasing an extremely grand framework.
Middle Third: As the burn enters its core, the advantages of the double binder blend become fully apparent. The peppery notes recede, and the main profile evolves into rich dark chocolate, aged earth, and nutty, oily notes of roasted pine nuts. Thanks to the Torpedo's ability to concentrate airflow, the sweet, earthy honey and woody aromas in the middle third exhibit intense focus, with a mellow and viscous mouthfeel, and layers that transition as smoothly as silk.
Final Third: Moving into the final third, the flavors become more refined with the heat. The main notes are dominated by deep oak, cinnamon spice, molasses, and an extremely profound, heavily roasted malt aroma. Even at the last inch, strict fermentation and impurity removal standards ensure no harshness or bitterness from tar accumulation, resulting in a stable, mellow finish, full of old Cuban tradition.
Authoritative Reviews & Pairing Suggestions
Cigar Aficionado's Glorious Bloom: The My Father La Opulencia series is a superstar in the global cigar world. Its Toro size achieved a historic high score of 95 points, ranking as the "World's Best Cigar Top 2" by CA in 2018. This Torpedo size also consistently garners high praise, scoring 92-93 points in various blind tasting reviews.
