JC Newman

JC Newman is the oldest family-owned cigar empire in American cigar history, founded in 1895 in Cleveland, Ohio by Hungarian immigrant Julius Caeser Newman. It is the only American cigar family business to have survived from the 19th century to the present day. Currently managed by fourth-generation brothers Eric and Bobby Newman, all premium cigars are 100% handcrafted at their own PENSA factory in Estelí, Nicaragua (using original machines brought from Cuba in the 1920s) and their historic El Reloj factory in Tampa, Florida. The tobacco leaves are sourced from top-tier farms the family has long been exclusively supplied with: Nicaragua (Estelí, Jalapa, Ometepe), the Dominican Republic, San Andrés in Mexico, and Ecuador. All tobacco leaves are aged for at least 5 years, with top batches aged up to 10 years. JC Newman is also the only brand in the United States that still uses 19th-century antique wooden molds and presses for production, and El Reloj has been designated a National Historic Landmark by the U.S. Congress.

JC Newman's main product lines are clearly tiered and can be divided into the following five categories:

  1. The American Series : The first 100% American tobacco leaf and American packaging cigar in American history, using Florida shade wrapper and Connecticut/Pennsylvania/Kentucky filler, rolled at the El Reloj factory in Tampa, box-pressed, medium to high strength, with flavors dominated by cedar, cream, roasted nuts and a hint of oak, is a national symbol of the "American cigar revival".
  2. Diamond Crown Series : The family's top flagship, created in collaboration with the Fuente family, including Diamond Crown Classic (Connecticut shaded wrapper, 5 years old, extremely smooth), Diamond Crown Black Diamond (rare Peruvian wrapper, rich cocoa), Diamond Crown Julius Caeser (commemorating the founder, Ecuadorian Habano wrapper + Dominican filler, multiple times 95+ points), and Diamond Crown Maximus (Ecuadorian Sumatra sun-dried wrapper, elegant at all strengths).
  3. Brick House Series : A replica of the classic 1930s recipe, 100% Nicaraguan puro, with a Brazilian Arapiraca wrapper or a Nicaraguan Habano wrapper. Medium to high strength, with notes of cedar, coffee, dark chocolate, and paprika. It offers excellent value for money and is hailed as "the closest American cigar to the golden age of Cuba".
  4. El Baton Series : A replica of the original 1904 formula, featuring a Nicaraguan Corojo wrapper and a Dominican/Nicaraguan filler. It offers medium to high strength, with notes of nuts, leather, coffee, and spices. The classic retro ring label provides a powerful yet balanced draw.
  5. Quorum and Cuesta-Rey series : everyday affordable options. Quorum is a high-value Nicaraguan blend; Cuesta-Rey is a continuation of the original Cuban recipe from 1895, with Connecticut or Cameroon wrappers, light to medium strength, dominated by butter and cedar.

Positioned as a "living fossil of American cigars and the pinnacle of family heritage," the JC Newman ranges in strength from medium to full. Its flavor profile is dominated by notes of cedar, cream, coffee, nuts, leather, and lingering sweetness from aged tobacco leaves. It burns straight, producing a crisp, white ash. For many consecutive years, it has received 90-95 points from *Cigar Aficionado*, and the Diamond Crown Julius Caeser and The American have repeatedly been listed as "Best of the Year." For connoisseurs seeking authentic cigar history, family craftsmanship, and the ultimate aging process, the JC Newman is not just a cigar, but a ticket to the golden age of cigars in 1895—every puff is a heartfelt tribute to those bygone days.
